    The Starry Night  The classical painting the Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh is an eye satisfying masterpiece that uses movement and emotion through its swirling brushstrokes and dynamic composition. The painting uses line, texture and contrast to create an appealing and expressive feeling allowing a sense of rhythm and energy. The night sky is filled with swirling blue and vibrant yellow, which is contrasted by the darker tone of the villages located below. This allows for the viewer's eye to be caught by the vast colors and shapes that are displayed on the paintings while also allowing them to develop a mood from it. This interplay of light and dark embodies the principle of contrast, enhancing the dreamlike quality of this art piece due to the color choice. The balance between organic, flowing shapes in the sky allows for the structure of the piece to become more geometric as it adds to the meaning behind the artwork. This also establishes a sense of harmony due to how the colors compliment each other in this piece allows the artwork to feel as if it is alive.  

    Color plays an important role in the emotional impact that the Starry Night had on people when they look at it. This piece uses bold complementary hues to create a striking visual that catches the eye of an individual. The deep blues and purples of the sky intensifies the golden yellow of the stars and the moon, reinforcing the principle of emphasis by allowing more attention to be where certain colors are used. The use of thick brushstrokes add texture and depth, making the sky seem almost tangible. Furthermore, the composition follows a structured arrangement with the large tree in the foreground acting as a visual bridge between the village and the sky. The careful arrangement of elements demonstrates the principles of unity and movement guiding the viewer's eyes to the rhythm of the painting. The use of color also adds a feeling to the art piece due to the choice in colors.
